A group which shares the name of Alekt's birth-clan, but not to be mistaken for the same thing, even if Alekt would like others to believe as much. The exact same naming convention is not by accident, but another method to hide his original Clan's existence behind a reputation of being a simple mercenary band.
Recently though, particularly among Reachmen, Alekt has taken to introducing them under an alternate name -- the Crowtongue Clan. After all, while outsiders to the Reach may never notice, there is always the chance that someone among the Reach could have heard of them, however slim that chance may be.
The Branch Clan is somewhat of a front, but no less important or disposable to Alekt for it, and the reasons he claims for forming it are not entirely false. Alekt formed the Branch Clan and became its leader in order to pursue knowledge and experience, to see the greater world of Nirn and meet many people along the way. The part he leaves out, is that that knowledge and experience is to make himself a better leader for his birth Clan when he one day takes the role of leader from his father, the current Clan Head.
The Branch Clan still holds many of the same rank titles that his original Clan had, if simplified by comparison -- Head, Beak, Eyes, Spines, Feathers, Wings, Talons, Body, Quill, Scavengers, and Fledglings. Each rank serves not only a purpose, but a place in an organized but versatile formation, good for scouting as well as combat.
Primarily, the Branch Clan acts as a mercenary unit, though they do much more than simply act as sell-swords to fight for whoever pays the highest amount of gold. Fighting is not outside the types of jobs they will take, but they will also take on contracts for bodyguarding, thievery, assassination, courier work, supply delivery, bounty hunting, and much more.
Alekt's belief is that no worthwhile group should limit itself if it has the capabilities to perform across a broad spectrum of opportunities, and so flexibility and adaptability are core ideologies to Clan structure and what jobs they will do.
For the most part, the Branch Clan has a good reputation across many regions, including Rivenspire, Northern Elsweyr, East and West Skyrim, the Reach, and Blackwood. Most know them for their honest and upfront work fighting off bandits, beasts, and helping those of less fortune.
They are not entirely unknown in the underground either, though they have been selective up to this point on exactly what work they will take so as to limit their enemies and the ire of the Law, so as to move about more freely and unimpeded.
